Robbie Burns Dinner 2008

Robert Burns is Scotland's most famous writer and poet. He was born into a farming family at Alloway in Ayrshire in 1759. He died in Dumfries at the early age of 37. Yet in that short time he had taken the Scottish literary world by storm, and had secured a place for himself in history and in legend.

George Stephen named our Mortlach after a village in Scotland, his country of birth. To celebrate our twinning with Mortlach, Dufftown, Scotland, we thought it would be a grand idea to celebrate a Robbie Burns dinner on the eve of his birthday, January 25, like thousands do around the world on the same day. It also seemed like a grand idea to use the occasion to raise money for extending library hours for the village. And, being as practical as any good Scottish folk, we thought we would throw in some financial education in too - Steve Gould gave the audience six common sense tips for financial success.

Sixty-five were in attendance, and by all reports the event was a huge success. The evening had a special feel as it was all new to us; the haggis, celebrating Robbie Burns. Great fun!
